The Center Theater

Welcome new General Manager Alyson King

Alyson King

Please join us in giving a standing ovation to The Center Theater’s new General Manager, Alyson King.

From performing on this very stage as a child to now helping guide the future of this historic theater, Alyson’s journey is one rooted in passion, creativity, and community.

We are honored to welcome her into this leadership role as The Center Theater prepares for an exciting new era.

A native of Hartsville, Alyson’s connection to the theater began in childhood when she performed on its stage alongside her twin sister. For her, the theater was always a magical place — the very place where her lifelong love of the performing arts first began.

After graduating from Hartsville High School in 1995, Alyson attended the University of South Carolina to study theater and dance before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Along with appearing in numerous film and television productions, she co-founded the Theatrical Education Group, an organization dedicated to bringing live Shakespeare performances to hundreds of thousands of students throughout Los Angeles.

Alyson later moved with her husband to Cedar City, Utah, where she became deeply involved in the local arts community and ultimately served as Artistic Director of the Neil Simon Festival. After earning her Master’s in Arts Administration from Southern Utah University, she and her husband relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where she worked as a producer for the internationally acclaimed Spoleto Festival USA.

When Alyson saw the opportunity to return home and lead the theater that first inspired her, it felt like a full-circle moment. She is thrilled to bring more than 25 years of theatrical experience back to Hartsville and looks forward to sharing her passion for the arts with neighbors, friends, and family through the next exciting chapter of The Center Theater.
